Lauryn Hill is putting a halt to her anniversary tour after suffering from the nightly use of a numbing steroid to aid her vocal cord injuries.
On Wednesday morning, the five-time Grammy winner took to Instagram to reveal she was taking Prednisone for her vocal strain. Although the medicine aims to help, it is more so a temporary fix that can have long-lasting effects. In order to avoid further complications, Hill said she decided to postpone to the remainder of the tour to an unannounced time.
She wrote, “As many of you may know, I’ve been battling serious vocal strain for the past month. I made it through each show by taking prescribed prednisone, but this can be detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time. In order to prevent any long-term negative affect [sic] on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.”

The tour has already hit Brooklyn’s Barclays, Chicago’s United Center, the Kia Forum in Los Angeles but was scheduled to run through mid-December with a final date in Boston. This tour celebrates Hill’s iconic debut solo album, 1998’s “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” but also sees the Fugees reuniting for their first tour in years to co-headline on all U.S. and Canadian dates. The trio announced a world tour in 2021 and played a concert in New York that September, but all other dates were canceled.

“Being able to tour this album to sold out crowds after 25 years has been an emotional experience! I’ve loved sharing the stage again with Wyclef and Pras,” Hill said in the caption to a video of her performance. “The Return of the Fugees has been powerful and amazing—those who’ve witnessed it can testify.”
Aside from their upcoming stop in Philadelphia this weekend, Hill went on to explain that they will be rescheduling “most of the remaining shows this year” and “the shows that were cancelled this year will be rescheduled for early 2024,” she said.
There is an upside: the tour will be adding new cities to its lineup — including some stops overseas. “We’re working on the new calendar now, and announcing soon,” Hill wrote.
“We want to thank everyone who celebrated with us—EVERY SINGLE FAN …and ALL band, crew, production, staff, family, friends and Day 1-OG-CAMP members who helped make each and every single night LEGENDARY!”
